The mission statement of the Central Procurement and Supplies Unit [CPSU] within the Ministry for Health is the provision of good quality medicines, pharmaceutical preparations and medical devices which are safe and effective, in a timely, quality - approved and cost-effective manner, with the aim of achieving optimal and effective pharmaceutical care in relation to cost.
The main functions of the CPSU target the purchase, storage and distribution of pharmaceutical supplies in line with E.U. legislation concerning good storage and distribution practise and wholesale dealing. The CPSU currently procures and distributes about 10,000 different healthcare-related products.
The CPSU is structured as follows:
